My foray into advanced DIY facial care evolved slowly. I had little spare time and money and I integrated new DIY practices into my routine when I was able. Today, I am addicted to my own facial care products. Yes, I love them all, the DIY toners, creams, lotions, deodorants. Love, love, love. I don’t know, on some level it feels like I nurture myself deeply with these beautiful DIY nature-based skin care products and practices.

Good Bye 2022 - Hello 2023 DIY Skin Care Plan by Deborah Tosline
Life’s challenging. As we work hard to meet responsibilities, achieve goals and plan futures, it’s easy to forget about simple mindless low-cost beneficial pleasures. I began my Do-It-Yourself (DIY) skin care journey about 40 years ago while struggling through college. On Saturdays, I slathered plain yogurt on my face and neck, followed by honey, followed by avocado for an hour at a time while I cleaned, organized and studied. I remember it as a mindless action that was telling. I don’t remember what prompted me but I’ve pursued a continuous DIY skin care hobby throughout my life.
Nutrition and Nutraceuticals for Facial Bone Health by Deborah Tosline
Bones are the foundation of our face and body and combined with soft tissue provide the power to move us through life. Buried deep beneath an intricate matrix of skin, fascia, blood vessels, muscles and more our hidden bones labor to meet our demands. Out of sight, out of mind, it’s easy to forget about them. The US mainstream lifestyle does not promote bone health. Over time, bones lose density and strength which fundamentally changes health outcomes and physical appearance.
Facial Architecture, Bone Volume, and Aging by Deborah Tosline
I began my Do-It-Yourself (DIY) facial hobby in my early 20’s and focused solely on skin health at the time. A couple of decades later I changed my focus and began to strengthen weak and atrophied facial muscles while continuing to advance my DIY skin care practices. Currently, I focus on facial bone health and identifying a variety of methods to maintain and enhance facial bone volume. Facial bones provide the foundation for facial muscles and skin and our individual look.
Near-Infrared Light Identified and Eliminated Irregular Chest Tissue by Deborah Tosline
I hope that sharing this personal information may be beneficial to someone. In 2017 I built a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Near-Infrared (NIR) light spa and have continuously used it on a weekly basis to experience benefits identified by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) research and additional co-benefits. In 2021, my NIR light spa exposed irregular tissue, caused cell death and reduced the irregular tissue to a benign condition as evidenced by laboratory imaging.

DIY Exfoliation – Chemical Peels to Rejuvenate Skin by Deborah Tosline
I am a huge fan of scrubbing, buffing, loosening and removing surficial skin cells to expose the fresh bright skin beneath. It’s vital to consistently remove old, dry, dead skin to maintain optimum skin health and promote new skin cell production. Why? Skin is our largest organ; it performs many functions to protect and keep us comfortable. Healthy skin is beautiful.
Correcting Neck Posture is a Whole-Body Thang by Deborah Tosline
This article summarizes the anecdotal results, experience and path that I took to correct my neck posture. Typically, I summarize research on a particular topic for monthly articles. Periodically, I write about my personal experience. This article is another long story about me. I apologize in advance for the personal focus but do hope that someone may benefit from my experience. In my mid-late 50’s I began in earnest to try to correct my neck posture; I soon learned that I would have to correct my body posture first and I continue today.

Anecdotal Evidence Showing the Impact of Extreme Sun Protection on Skin Health by Deborah Tosline
I developed a habit in my mid-twenties of using clothing for sun protection while working as a hydrogeologist collecting groundwater well information and water quality samples on hot summer days in the southern Arizona desert sun. Inevitably, I felt a strong urge to protect my skin for health and beauty during those long sunny field days. At the time (mid-1980’s), I purchased silk scarves, silk shirts, silk pants and cotton gloves from the thrift store and contentedly completely covered myself, looking like a mirage of a desert sheik wearing a straw hat.

Facial Bones – Maintaining and Building Jaw Strength with Hard Foods by Deborah Tosline
Mainstream American culture has brought many delights and a multitude of not-so great-for-you lifestyle habits that lead us into what I refer to as “Mainstream American Culture Disease and Aging". Mainstream culture processed foods are soft. Consuming soft foods is not only bad for health (=beauty) but also bad for the teeth and jawline.

DIY Skin Care Reactions, Observations and Responses to Avoid Skin Irritation or Worse by Deborah Tosline
There are situations that we try to avoid in life, like being involved with a covert narcissist, but sometimes we miss the subtle signs before it’s too late. DIY skin care is the same. The True Cost of Making a Luxury DIY Skin Care Cream by Deborah Tosline
Over the decades most of my DIY skin moisturizing needs involved adding vitamins, nutraceuticals, and advanced, active, skin care ingredients to retail creams. I gravitated towards products that contained basic pure ingredients. The DIY approach fit my slim pocketbook and desire for luxury skin care. I rarely used body creams and lotions; I did not like them… too many chemicals. I used a lot of raw oils. In recent years, I began making emulsified creams and while it has been a simple chemistry experiment, I’ve had mixed results, until recently.

Oh, the weight of depression takes a heavy toll on the soul, physical, mental and emotional health and overall well-being. It may feel as if you are moving through thick syrupy molasses. Eliminate Blackheads and Balance the Skin using the Oil Cleansing Method by Deborah Tosline
Facial skin looks healthiest when the skin’s natural oil production is balanced and it looks smoothest when pores are clean and tight. Skin pores are openings associated with hair follicles that excrete oils and sweat. Natural oils are excreted via skin pores to lubricate the skin. Oil, dirt and dead skin cells can form a plug that clogs skin pores and promotes bacterial growth.

Avoid Sallow, Ashen Skin and Promote Velvety, Colorful Skin by Deborah Tosline
A couple of decades ago I thought about what was important to me regarding facial skin health. I believed that healthy skin looks velvety like a child’s skin. I didn’t want to lose my skin’s vitality. If I could maintain some sort of velvetiness and lively skin tone, this would satisfy most of my skin health goals. Early in my skin care journey I attempted to keep my skin “alive” by proactively using skin care practices to consistently rejuvenate my skin over time to maintain excellent skin health.
Clear, colorful, supple, velvety, healthy skin is beautiful.
